The musical "Turn Left, Turn Right", an adaptation of Taiwan cartoonist Jimmy Liao's illustrated novel "A Chance of Sunshine", will be staged in Beijing from Sept. 21 to 23. With this year's Mid-Autumn Festival falling on Sept. 22, couples in the capital now have one more option for their romantic date.

"A Chance of Sunshine" tells the story of two youngsters who have feelings for each other but always miss the chance to meet. Although neighbors in the same apartment block, one turns right every day and the other turns left. The scene is a reflection of the lonely circumstances young people often have to endure in big cities.

Since the novel was published, it has spawned a series of popular songs, movies and TV dramas. The Web site Sohu.com says musical director Li Huanxiong reproduces in Beijing the production that was so successful at the Taipei Arena.

Malaysian singer Victor Wong (Pin Guan) and Taiwan singer Valen Hsu (Xu Ruyun) play the leads. Musician Chien-Chi Chen and the band Sodagreen composed the music for all 22 songs and renowned Taiwan poet Xia Yu wrote the lyrics.
