A Beijing man who offered to share pornographic videos of famous car model Zhai Ling will spend 15 days in administrative detention, say police.

Li Tao, 23, who owns a computer repair store and lives in Xiwenzhuang town, was the first person to be arrested in connection to the scandal that saw three pornographic videos of the model, nicknamed Shoushou (the Beast), circulate online.

The videos were allegedly first posted online by a disgruntled former boyfriend and have since been highly sought after by Internet users.

Online security experts subsequently warned netizens that hackers had used the videos to spread computer viruses and infected more than 100,000 computers.

Police said Li used the online alias "bad child Li Aiguo" to post a topic on an online forum on the popular portal Baidu.com. His alleged post on Feb 24 was entitled "Got Shoushou's videos, will forward this afternoon, leave your email address", said Miyun county police's Internet surveillance office.

Investigators said they saw the post and traced Li's true identity and his computer's location.

He was picked up at a rented apartment.

Police said they found copies of the three dirty videos on his computer's hard drive.

Liu Juan, a spokesman for Miyun county police, told METRO Li admitted he had downloaded the videos and saved them in his email inbox.

"Li planned to reveal his email address and password to people who posted their emails following his topic," Liu said. "He is a young guy and didn't realize how big a mistake he had made.

"He acted like many young netizens who want to increase their online reputation by providing followers with so-called rare and precious information."

Liu said officers who arrested Li described him as looking confused when questioned. He said Li finally muttered: "I was wrong."

Beijing Times reported that Li's post received more than 300 replies. He was reportedly popular on Baidu's forum for devoting much of his spare time to posting online topics and uploading pictures.
