A curry lover who ran off without paying his restaurant bill 13 years ago has finally made moves to settle the tab.

Swansea police received a letter from the mystery dinner, who wrote that he had "forgotten" to pay for his £10 Indian meal in 1996 and included £60 to repay the debt with interest. The customer also asked police to apologise to the owner for the inconvenience.

However, all the letter's author could remember was that the eatery was on the seafront.

Local officers have since discovered that the venue was knocked down a couple of years ago to be replaced by a block of flats. The force are now keen to trace the owner of the former Sea View Palace so that they can return the cash.

"It seems that the author has had a pang of conscience and wishes to repay his debt, with some inflation," a police spokesman told Sky News.
