CHANGSHA - While Beijing witnessed its heaviest rainfall in over 13 years from Sunday to Monday, South China has endured temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, the China Meteorological Administration said Monday.

In Central China's Hunan province, temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius have hit the provincial capital Changsha and cities of Hengyang and Huaihua since July 19 and caused people to remain indoors as often as possible. They're even avoiding the stroll to restaurants, choosing food home delivery service.

The local meteorological authorities of Hunan province have launched artificial precipitation to help crop growth.

As of 6 am Monday, the Central Meteorological Office issued blue alerts for the heat wave.

According to the China Meteorological Administration, the temperatures in parts of western Inner Mongolia autonomous region, South Xinjiang Basin, and the Turpan Basin are likely to rise to 40 degrees.

Also, high temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius will affect Central China's Hunan province, East China's provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Fujian, and parts of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
