The traditional idea of gifting flowers on Mother's Day takes on a new twist in this eco-art installation and workshop that aim to celebrate mothers and also encourage adoption of sustainable lifestyles.
Angus Tsui, who works in sustainable fashion, has put together an installation that shows how unwanted fabrics can be given a second life. Made out of old hotel staff uniforms and carpet samples, the installation is the handiwork of 200 volunteers who crafted 1,000 flowers from the recycled fabrics.
On Saturday, a professional floral designer will run a free workshop teaching participants how to make colorful bouquets from the upcycled flowers. Mothers will likely approve when they receive the unique handcrafted gift that is also about caring for the environment.

Groovy tunes from the 90s
Local choir group Phoenix Singers perform an hour-long musical blast from the past featuring hits from the 1990s. Accompanied by a live rock band, the audience can sing along with their old favorites - hits from Alanis Morrisette, The Cranberries, Spice Girls, Oasis and Backstreet Boys. The choir will also sing some choral rock numbers accompanied by a piano, violin and tambourine.
Part of the proceeds will be used to support outreach and education programs run by Adoptive Families of Hong Kong.

Drawing on the past
Hong Kong artist Chan Shing-kau's works are informed by The Theory of Six Chirography, written by Tang Dynasty master calligrapher, Zhang Huai Guan. A new exhibition shows Chan's skill in blending techniques from calligraphy, painting and modern ink art. Chan uses symbolic cursive script and lines to depict hills and landscapes. His Tracing Series works are influenced by the Taoist "planchette writing" tradition of drawing on trays of sand.
