Newly illuminated Egyptian Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

 Lights illuminate the ancient Egyptian Temple of Queen Hatshepsut in West Bank of Luxor, around 650 km (404 miles) south of Cairo, August 17, 2009. The temple dates from about 1,480 B.C.E. Hatshepsut was an 18th-dynasty pharaoh who was one of the handful of female rulers in ancient Egypt. Her reign was the longest of all the female pharaohs, and her funerary temple still stands as a tribute to her incredible rise to power. The architect was Senmut, a member of her court. The temple is dedicated to Amon and Hathor, although there are chapels dedicated to other gods, like Anubis. [Agencies] |
