Tumen is located to the east of Mount Changbai and in the lower reaches of the Tumen River, facing the DPRK across the river. Now it takes an area of 1142.3 km and has a population of 136,000. It borders Hunchun, one of the national open cities, to the east and Yanji, the prefecture capital, to the west. More to the point, it is only 160 km away from North Korea’s Najin-Seonbong Free Economic and Trade Zone, 80 km from Changlingzi Port that connects China and Russia and 150 km from the estuary of the Tumen River. All of these factors make it a major transport connection, and the largest port city in Jinlin Province that features convenient transportation communications.
