Huhhot means “blue city” in Mongol. Briefly known as Hushi and as the provincial seat, Huhhot is the political, economic, cultural and commercial center of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. It is an important industrial city in Inner Mongolia and also one of the wool spinning industry centers in China. Presently, Huhhot has already become a comprehensive industrial city with relatively complete industrial categories. In 2008, Huhhot’s GDP totaled RMB 129.4 billion, with a per capita GDP of RMB 51,146 against the permanent-resident population of 2.58 million.

呼和浩特市，意为“青色的城”，简称呼市，为内蒙古自治区首府， 全区政治、经济、文化和商业中心。呼和浩特是内蒙古重要的工业城市，也是我国重要的毛纺织工业中心之一，现已成为一个门类比较齐全的综合性工业城市。2008年国民生产总值为1294亿元，常住人口258万，人均GDP为51146元。

Apart from traditional folk article industry and light textile industry, Huhhot’s sugar making, cigarette, dairy products, medicine, chemical making, metallurgy, electric power and building materials are developing on fairly large-scale industries. In recent years, Huhhot has taken advantage of the unique natural conditions, bringing about rapid development of the dairy industry and turning the city into a renowned Dairy Capital. Having a long history behind it, Huhhot has been approved by the State Council as the famous state historical and cultural city. Plentiful and precious scenic spots and ancient relics are preserved in the urban areas, where temple culture abounds. Tourism has gradually become the pillar industry of Hohhot.

呼和浩特除传统的民族用品工业、轻纺工业外，制糖、卷烟、乳品、医药、化工、冶金、电力、建筑材料等工业都已形成较大规模。近年来，呼和浩特借助得天独厚的自然条件，乳业发展迅速，已成为文明遐迩的"乳都"。呼和浩特具有悠久的历史，为国务院批准的国家历史文化名城，城区内保存有丰富的珍贵的名胜古迹，有着丰富的召庙文化，旅游业逐渐成为呼和浩特新的支柱产业。
