A telephone survey investigating ordinary people's opinion of the China Central Television (CCTV) Spring Festival Gala 2007 shows over 80 percent of spectators gave a thumbs-up to the gala.

However, in a similar survey on the internet, 40 percent of netizens gave the gala their thumbs-down.

CVSC-TNS Research (CTR) telephoned to 2002 families in 406 different regions to probe the feedback on the spring festival gala over three hours.

83.6 percent of those families interviewed gave their approval to the gala. 51.3 percent believed the gala was very good.

But an online survey held by sina.com, showed that 75857 out of 138406 netizens, about 54.81 percent said the gala was not good, while 32.7 percent believed it was average. Only 12.5 percent say it was good.

In another online survey, 42750 out of 109356 netizens, about 39.09 percent believed the gala worthy of a 1 score, 24593 people chose 3 score, and 5952 people chose 5 score.

As the largest media and marketing research company in China, CVSC-TNS Research (CTR) is a joint venture between China International Television Corporation (CITV) and TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres), one of the world's leading market research groups.

Since 1996, CTR began to carry out the spectator survey by telephone on behalf of China Central Television.
