The cost of hubris is a strong potential

T.P.Jackstraw  Updated: 2004-04-26 09:15

A respondent put up a poster earlier in this thread, alluding to the idea that to understand something, you must first experience it, even if it means your death.

I note that the behavior of the human male is often so intrepid. And just so, as that respondent's mentality indicates to me, that he is, very likely, a male.

There is a general tendency among boys to explore and test their environment; sometimes this is done without a lot of great forethought. I note the statistic, somewhere about children becoming electrocuted by playing with electrical receptacles in the home, it is skewed greatly toward the injured boys. No wonder the Chinese revere the old men -- they must have demonstrated great wisdom to have survived so long; one might learn from them.

Opinions are opinions, details are details; ideas, thoughts and perceptions are of greater interest to me.

The American-led Western intelligence agencies provided garbage for General Powell to distribute to the world. I do not see what all this expensive intelligence is really providing to the US citizens. They have a lousy track record, they botched the 9/11 stuff, the WMDs, a postwar plan, the Bay of Pigs, the South Vietnamese military coup, the Panamanian Captain Kidd antics, the Iraqi-Iran arms sales and drug deals, the list is endless ... . Why do the Americans pay so much money for this kind of nonsense? Perhaps, they do not know, or is it that they do not care? We do not need it! We don't need to be paying for the 7th Fleet to float around the Pacific coast of China either!

The Chinese are looking for reciprocation to their open extension of friendship, they look forward, almost longingly to be accepted and embraced by the world, but more especially the Americans. A trip to China by Geo. W. Bush would have brought them the hope that there is a true willingness to understand and a desire to accept the Chinese. An apology to the family would have given the Chinese the face they deserve, because no one really wanted that young man to die; an acknowledgment of this truth by our President, would have made the world a much happier, healthier and more productive place. It would have cost the US and our President, virtually nothing!
