Shijiazhuang, the capital city of Hebei province, is the political, economic, cultural, technological, financial and information center and is an excellent tourist city.

Shijiazhuang lies in the hinterland of the economic zone surrounding the Bohai Sea on the central northern part of the North China Plain.

To its north are the capital Beijing and the port city Tianjin. On its east is Hengshui and Cangzhou. It is against the Taihang Mountains and abuts on Shanxi Province.

Its climate is temperate continental monsoon climate. Under its municipal jurisdiction, there are 6 districts, 12 counties, 5 county-level cities and a national high and new technology industrial development zone. It covers an area of 15,800 square kilometers and has a total population of 9.24 million.

Shijiazhuang is usually called "a gate from south to north and the throat from Hebei to Shanxi"and has transport facilities. Four roads, namely, Beijing-Shijiazhuang, Shijiazhuang-Anyang, Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan and Shijiazhuang-Huanghua, meet here and four national roads, G107, 207, 307and 308, go through Shijiazhuang. Passenger and freight transportation extends to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, Inner Mogolia, Liaoning, Shaanxi, Henan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shandong.

Now there are 9 long-distance passenger stations, and more than 3,200 coaches. Every day, the number of runs is 5,800. Among them there are 12 special lines to such scenic spots as Xibaipo, Zhaozhou Bridge, Longxing Temple, Cangyan Mountain and Wuyue Village.

There are more than 130 passenger trains passing by or starting from Shijiazhuang Railway Station. There are 15 pairs of special tourist trains, among which there are 4 pairs of intercity trains and one pair of fast trains from Shijiazhuang to Beijing.

There are still the passenger trains to Shanghai, Changchun, Qinhuangdao, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Zhangjiakou, Chengde, Yantai, Anyang and Taiyuan. Shijiazhuang Zhengding Airport lies 30 kilometers northeast of Shijiazhuang City. Now there are 36 airlines (31 domestic lines, 1 line to Hongkong and 4 lines to the Common Wealth of Independent States) flying to 35 cities (including Hongkong and 8 cities of the Common Wealth of Independent States).

It is one of the important production bases of textiles, and the biggest antibiotic production base in China. It has the advantages of agricultural production and is a high-yield area for grain, vegetables, meat and eggs.

Tianhua snow pear, Zhaozhou snow pear, Zanhuang Chinese dates and walnuts are sold to the countries and regions of Southeast Asia, Europe and America.

Commerce and trade are very flourishing and active. It is an important national commercial city and a center for the collecting and distributing of commodities, which caters to the needs of "the three north"areas (the northeast, the north, and the northwest). Xinhua Peddlers"Market and Nansantiao Small Commodities Wholesale Market are among the top 10 trade markets in China and their goods are sold to all parts of the country.

Shijiazhuang abounds in tourist resources. It has not only human resources such as famous historical and cultural cities and modern revolutionary memorial sites, but also beautiful natural resources.

There are 18 key cultural relics under state protection, 105 key cultural relics under provincial protection and more than 240 key cultural relics under municipal or county protection. There are more than 1,200 scenic spots in all.

There are two national scenic spots (Canyan Mountain and Zhangshiyan Crag), two provincial scenic spots (Fenglong Mountain and Tiangui Mountain), Zhengding, a famous national historical and cultural city, Zhaoxian County, a famous provincial historical and cultural city, one national forest park (Wuyue Village), six provincial forest parks (Xiantai Mountain, Tuoliang, Nansizhang, Chizhi, Longzhou Lake and Xibaipo), and six national or provincial bases for patriotic education.

Shijiazhuang has a complete tourist service system. At present, throughout the city, there are 26 star hotels, 12 foreign affairs restaurants, 510 hotels and restaurants in the scenic areas, and 126 foreign or domestic travel agencies.

There are many large entertainment places, such as Tianshan Sea World and Huaite Sea Amusement Park. There are various characteristic restaurants in the urban area, which gather all the dishes with unique features in both the south and north of China.
