*Geographic Location
Hebei Province is located between 36°03'--42°40' north and 113°27'--119°50' east. Lying in the east of the North China Plain, extending across Inner Mongolia Plateau, and surrounding the capital city Beijing and an important commercial city Tianjin, Hebei province is bounded by LiaoNing and NeiMengGu on the north, ShanXi on the west, and HeNan and ShanDong on the south. The total area of the province is 188,000 square kilometers with 765 kilometers the longest between north and south and 400 kilometers the widest between east and west.

As the gate to Beijing and Tianjin, Hebei province is the essential place for Beijing to connect with other places all over the country. At the same time Hebei Province is under the influence of the development of the economy, technology and information of Beijing. Lying in the center of round-the-Bohai Sea region and at the east end of Euro-Asia Continental Bridge.

Hebei province has be designated by the Chinese government as another key opening-up area. *Historical Development
During the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 B.C.) and the Warring States period (475-221 B.C.), the state of Yan was located in north Hebei Province, and the state of Zhao, in south Hebei. Hence Hebei is also known as òYanzhaoó.
Over the long years of China's historical evolution, Hebei Province has always occupied an important position. Especially in the Yuan (1271-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties when Beijing served as the capital city, Hebei Province surrounded and defended the nation's capital. The name of Hebei Province was first adopted in 1928, and on August 1st , 1949, the Hebei Provincial People's Government was established.
