Vice-governor: Zhejiang builds a green, safe province

Zhejiang Province in east China is working for a "green" and "safe" Zhejiang project in its fast economic development, vice-governor Zhong Shan revealed in Hangzhou, the provincial capital June 5.

At a press conference attended by over 30 websites from across China on a reporting mission "Linking Zhejiang," Zhong said the province advanced pretty fast in terms of its economy, culture, education and social development.

The province's gross domestic product (GDP) reaches US$2,400 billion, following Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces. As for education, the government also increased investment to build more colleges and universities. There are 72 colleges and universities in Zhejiang.

In terms of social development, Zhong said the province has launched a project named Safe Zhejiang. "We hope every tourist will feel safe and happy here."

He talked about some problems existing in the province's development. Such as shortage of resources, lacking of highways and environmental problem. "We have realized these problems, and we will try our best to solve them," the vice-governor said.

On the economic development, Zhong said the province is developing Zhejiang's three industry belts -- the Hangzhou Bay Industry Zone, the Taizhou-Wenzhou Industry Zone and the Jinhua-Lishui-Quzhou Industry Zone.

He said the government will also do more to improve the environment, both the hard environment and soft environment to attract more overseas investors.

"Our aim is to build Green Zhejiang and Safe Zhejiang," Zhong said.
