5th China Beijing High-Tech Expo 2002

The 5th High-Tech Expo in 2002 was the first of its kind after China's accession to the WTO and winning the opportunity to host the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

Among the attendees were 50,000 domestic delegations from all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and 72 government and trade missions from 68 countries and regions, including the United Nations and the European Union. 2,545 Chinese and foreign enterprises participated in the exhibitions, increasing nearly 20 percent over the precious year. Visitors to the exhibitions amounted to 500,000, of which over 5,000 were overseas guests.

The High-tech Expo closed with the conclusion of 397 agreements and contracts worth US$7.35 billion. Among the agreements, 337 projects were about investment, valued at US$7.12 billion, 96.9 percent of the total transaction. Among the projects, high-tech projects reached US$4.41 billion, making up 62 percent. Beijing city alone netted 133 projects at the value of US$ 5.7 billion, 77.5 percent of the total.
