Gas blast in north China leaves five people dead

At least five people were reported dead in a gas blast accident that happened early Sunday morning in Puxian County of north China's Shanxi Province, sources with the provincial work safety supervision bureau said.

The accident happened at around 4:00 a.m. Sunday at an illegal coal mine in the county. The exact number of miners working underground when the accident took place is not available.

Leading officials of Puxian County have gone to the site of the accident to organize rescue operation.
