The Shanghai-base Dongfang Daily published a list of the top 10 richest Chinese film stars in 2005.

Hong Kong kongfu master Jackie Chan is on the top of the list, with 230 million yuan grabbed into his pocket over the past year, followed by Hong Kong film veteran Andy Lau with 107 million yuan in total income. The list showed that Hong Kong film stars made the most part, with six Hong Kong film stars appearing on the list in total.

Although Jackie Chan has only shot one film (the Myth) in 2005, he spent a lot of time on charity issues and made a fortune in his investment, especially in the real estate sector. His efforts were paid off, as he overtook Andy Lau to become one of the only two film stars on the list whose total income exceed the 100 million mark.

Taiwan film stars fell far behind their Hong Kong colleagues in aspect of making money. Although Jay Chou was the richest film star in Taiwan in 2005, with 59.6 million yuan earned last year, he was only ranked fourth.

Zhang Ziyi was the only mainland star entering the list. Acting in two advertisements and playing for two films, she made 38 million yuan in 2005, almost ending the list with a ninth position.
