Two persons were killed, 29 others injured and two more are still missing after Typhoon Haitang hammered Taiwan, Taiwan media reported Tuesday.

Life is returning to normal Tuesday in most cities and counties across Taiwan since the once super-strong storm became a moderate one, the media said.

Haitang, named after a Chinese flower, hit northern Taiwan on Monday.

The storm caused 1.3 billion Taiwan dollars (about 40 million US dollars) in damage to Taiwan's agriculture, according to a Council of Agriculture preliminary estimate.

Air traffic in the island was becoming normal before Tuesday at noon and international air flights have all resumed.

Typhoons gather strength from warm sea water and tend to dissipate after making landfall. They frequently hit Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong and southern China during a season that starts in early summer and lasts until late autumn.
