A genuine German prince has taken out a lonely hearts ad looking for a bride to share his life.

Prince Ruediger of Saxony, 51, has a 30-bedroom stately home and his own forest in Mortizburg.

The Prince, the great-grandchild of the last King of Saxony Friedrich August III, placed the ad in a German newspaper.

It reads: "Genuine prince, sweet natured and industrious, is seeking after much disappointment a decent woman aged between 25 and 50 for marriage. Pocket money of 2,500 euros a month."

And he said: "I will lay all my love and treasures at her feet. My future wife will marry into one of the oldest dynasties in Europe, one that ruled the Kingdom of Saxony for 829 years."

However, commoners need not apply: "I am looking for a princess to marry, ideally one from Saxony," he explained.

But he is willing to seek candidates among Britain's royal set too if a suitable German cannot be found.

His wife Diana, 46, is in the throes of divorcing him - the decree nisi is expected any day now.
