A survey will be conducted of the local animal breeding farms, while the areas of the delta will be monitored for signs of the infection.

The wetlands in the Yellow River Delta region are an important place in northeast Asia for more than two million birds during their annual migration in May.

Experts warn that unless the deadly H5N1 avian influenza virus is controlled, it could spread rapidly among the migrating birds.
