A doctor attached to Serie A club AC Milan has been arrested for indecent exposure ahead of the team's Champions League match against Manchester United.

Greater Manchester Police said a 44-year-old man was arrested after officers received a call on Tuesday night that a man had indecently exposed himself to a female employee at a hotel in Salford, northern England.

The man, later identified by AC Milan as their team doctor Armando Gozzini, was being questioned by police.

In a statement released at Old Trafford shortly before the match kickoff, AC Milan expressed "its full confidence" in club doctor Armando Gozzini.

"Doctor Gozzini is a man of the highest professional and moral standing," said the club.

"AC Milan believe it is inconceivable that he could have been involved in the action for which he has been charged.

"The club hopes to see a swift and satisfactory conclusion to this matter."
