Shevchenko out of United showdown
Updated: 2005-02-21 10:38

Andriy Shevchenko looks set to miss AC Milan's Champions League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday after fracturing his cheekbone in the first half of tonight's 1-0 win over Cagliari.

Shevchenko clashed heads with Cagliari defender Simone Loria when attempting to win a ball in the area.

The Ukrainian hitman had to come off the pitch early on and was taken to hospital, where he will spend the night before undergoing surgery on Monday.

Milan expect the European Footballer of the Year to be out of action for at least 12 days, ruling him out of Wednesday's Champions League match with Manchester United at Old Trafford and next weekend's Serie A derby against Inter Milan.

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti said: 'He is not going to be available and it is a disappointment, but we have to find the strength in order to look ahead despite such a big absence for us.'
