Accor to manage Sofitel Wanda Beijing The signing ceremony of management contract between Accor Group and Dalian Wanda Group was held in Beijing on December 16, 2004. In accordance to the contract, Accor is going to operate the Sofitel Wanda Beijing in the new Wanda Plaza Urban Development Project, which is scheduled to open in 2006. Wan Jianlin, Chairman & President of Dalian Wanda Group, told reporters that Accor won the management contract bid after fierce competition with many other top 5-star brands worldwide. It is based on successful co-operation between the two sides in Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan Province in Southwestern China. ˇ°We will forge strategic long-term partnership with Accor as negotiation on other projects in Ningbo and Shanghai are underway.ˇ± He said. His remark was echoed by David Baffshy, Accor Asia Pacific Chairman. He said that co-operation with Dalian Wanda Group was part of the most comprehensive expansion of the Sofitel brand in Asia Pacific especially in dynamic China. Accor was expected to run 40 hotels in China by 2006, he added. The French hotel and tourism colgnamate has built a network that comprised 4,000 hotels worldwide over last three decades. Besides Sofitel, there are other renowned brands such as Novotel, Mercure, Ibis, and Fomule 1, which cover a full spectrum of the accommodation market. Reggie Shiu, Senior Vice President- Asia & CEO - China told reporters that Accor currently operated 24 hotel in China and 10 hotels were under development. The new Wanda Plaza Urban Development Project involves prime land of 480,000 square meters in CBD in Chaoyang District in Beijing, which includes construction of office towers, a major retail centre, restaurants, entertainment complexes, residential apartments and the 5-star Sofitel Wanda Beijing hotel. Dalian Wanda Group is the leading property developer in China. The affiliated commercial company is scheduled to go public in HK or other overseas stock market in 2005. |
