DALIAN: The Germany-based Messe Frankfurt GmbH, a major player in the global trade fair business, is to organize an international fur exhibition next September with a local partner in this port city in Northeast China's Liaoning Province.

"The event may be starting small, but we'll join hands in two or three years to establish a strong foundation for a world-renowned exhibition in the region," said Stephan Buurma, managing director of Messe Frankfurt (Hong Kong) Ltd, after signing an agreement yesterday with Dalian International Garment Exhibition Co Ltd (DIGEC).

As one of the top fair organizers in the world, Messe Frankfurt is always interested in strong partners from the local market, said Buurma.

As the only UFI (the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) member in China's garment exhibition industry, DIGEC is famous both at home and abroad as the organizer of the Dalian International Garment Fair held every September during the Dalian International Fashion Festival.

According to the agreement, Messe Frankfurt will bring in overseas exhibitors and buyers for the annual fur exhibition while DIGEC focuses on domestic partners.

"The exhibition will target the market in Northeast China and neigbouring countries such as Russia, Japan and the Republic of Korea," said DIGEC General Manager Li Suzhen.

At the 16th Dalian International Garment Fair last September, a special area set aside for fur firms from Russia was well received.

Officials in the city attached great importance to the co-operation.

"The co-operation will certainly boost the expo industry in the city and upgrade the management level of the key exhibitors," said Vice-Mayor Qi Yumin.
