Chinese pairs skaters Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao compete in the pairs short program at the MasterCard Skate Canada International at the Halifax Metro Centre on October 28, 2004. [Reuters]

China's best renowned synchronized skating pair Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo won the pairs short program with 66.48 points at Skate Canada International in Halifax, Oct. 29, 2004.

The 2002 Olympic bronze medallists and 2003 world champions chose part of Claude Achille Debussy's chamber music in their short program and will replace the lively Nut Cracker Ballet by Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky with the majestic Dynasty of Song in their free-style competition.

Another pair of China, Pang Qing and Tong Jian finished second with 64.54.

Skate Canada is the second event on the Grand Prix circuit.
