Evergreen singer Na Ying and her boyfriend, the former footballer Gao Feng, have already proved the critics wrong: together on and off for 10 years, and apparently going strong.

Na is renowned for being extremely direct, however - and isn't one to keep quiet for the sake of appearances. So how will she deal with the sudden news of Gao's son? Especially as Na just gave birth to Gao's child?

Scandal hit in early September, when Gao's sometime girlfriend A Wen took the football player to court over dereliction of duty for failing to support his three-year-old child, demanding Y670,000.

The owner of a bar in Shenyang, northeast China, mystery saxophone player and amateur singer A Wen lived with Gao during 2002, while Gao and Na were on a break. The pair split up when A Wen fell pregnant, and A Wen claims that he abandoned her, never having met his own son.

This isn't the first time Na and Gao have traveled stormy waters. Aside from their 2002 separation, there was also the time in 2001, when rumor was rife over the meaning behind one of Na's songs, telling the tale of discovering another woman's hair in the home of her and her lover.

Two albums followed swiftly: A Sad Romance (Xinsuan de langman), and I'm Not an Angel (Wo bu shi tianshi), leading to rumors that Na's was a troubled heart.

Then, in 2004, newspaper reports circulated that Gao had seen a young woman off from the airport, as well as rumors of his involvement with a famous female VJ. In the face of this sexual scandal, Na went into hiding.

According to Na's sister, Na Xin, the singer has no plans to marry Gao, and her baby will take Na's own family name.

From Shenyang has come silence. Refusing all interviews, rumor has it that A Wen is in hiding for the sake of her own safety.

Meanwhile, Gao's own mother provided the most mysterious answer when quizzed about her son's infidelity: "This lawsuit isn't entirely unexpected. It's inevitable when it's the only course of action."

In one of Na Ying's earlier songs, she wrote: "I wager happiness as my stake; I admit I have lost my bet." At the time, it was supposed that the song was written for the luckless Wang Fei. Now, everyone is holding it up as Na's own inner monologue.
