Four Chinese were injured in a car bomb explosion outside the Australian embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia Thursday morning, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan Thursday.

Kong said the four people had been rushed to the hospital for treatment, and staff from the Chinese embassy in Indonesia had visited them.

Reports said at least seven people were killed and nearly 100 injured in the explosion.

"The scale of the explosion and the injuries and deaths it produced were shocking," Kong said.

The spokesman said China has noticed that the Indonesian government has taken active measures and the Indonesian police were investigating the crime. "The causes and targets of the explosion are still subject to Indonesian investigation."

Kong said China was following the situation closely and had expressed condolences to the governments and peoples concerned.
