Man stabs 15 kindergarten children in Beijing

A doorman at a kindergarten in Beijing, went on a rampage on Wednesday morning, stabbing 15 children and three teachers, according to a report by beijing.org.cn.

One child died later due to serious injury and blood loss. Another two, one child and one teacher, sustained serious neck wounds and were in critical condition.

Police detained Xu Heping, 51, after the stabbings. His motives were unclear, and the case is under further investigation.

At about 9:00am Wednesday moring, police received the emergency report, and three patrol police vehicles and eight policemen rushed to the kindergarten affiliated to the No 1 Hospital under Peking University in downtown Beijing, and overpowered the man wielding a kitchen knife.

Teachers and the head of kindergarten also fought with the man and helped to overpower him.

The injured were rushed to hospital immediately. One child died and two of the injured are still in critical condition. The injuries of the others are not life-threatening.

City officials also rushed to the scene and hospital to see the injured and assist the rescue and investigation efforts.

It is reported that 23 children were in the kindergarten when the incident occurred.

Xu Heping has worked at the kindergarten for two years as a doorman. Before his stabbing rampage, he showed no abnormal behaviors. Police are questioning and interrogating him and his motives are unknown yet.
