Heraklio: Olympic Arrangements Updated: 2004-06-28 15:28
Heraklio will be hosting Olympic Football Tournament matches from the 11th to
23rd of August 2004 and for that reason plans are being implemented for the best
provision of city operations.
The purpose of the measures taken in view of the Olympic operations in each
city is to provide the best possible services to visitors in the city and for
the athletes who will be taking part in the football matches, safeguarding in
parallel the normal daily life of the city’s residents. They are intended to
make the Olympic operations and the Olympic sport activities in Heraklio a
magnet for visitors and residents alike.
Arrangements
For regulating traffic in the city of Heraklio the following transport
management policy will be implemented:
Primary Olympic Routes will be designated for rapid transport of the Olympic
Family and spectators, as follows:
Along the entire length of the Primary Olympic Routes, existing parking
prohibitions will be strictly enforced and controlled.
A Contolled Access and Circulation Zone (CACZ) will be designated around the
Pankritio Stadium.
These measures are comprised of special traffic arrangements for key urban
areas, changes in the city cleaning programme, and changes in shopping and
provisioning hours.
Public Transportation will operate according to the normal daily schedule. In
parallel, ATHENS 2004 and the Heraklio Urban Bus Company are planning to
establish specific lines for the use of spectators, as well as for persons
working in the Pankritio Stadium. Upon presenting a valid Games ticket,
spectators will be entitled to free transport to and from the Competition Venue,
on the date for which their ticket is valid.
