Volos: Olympic Arrangements

The Olympic football at Volos will be between 11 and 20
August 2004.
The present plan is that the first
delegations shall arrive in Volos on 7 August 2004 and use of the training sites
(from 09.00 to 22.00) shall also start on 7 August. A total of sixteen
delegations will arrive in Volos at Games-time.
Special Arrangements
Special arrangements will apply between Friday 6 August
and Saturday 21 August 2004. Their aim is to showcase the Olympic city of Volos
and promote the city’s potential for organising and for participating in major
international events. The goal is twofold:
A flawless organised football tournament
Happy memories of Volos for everyone who has experienced
the city’s Olympic atmosphere.
The bodies involved in planning Olympic Operations in
Volos and implementing them at Games-time are: Local Authorities, Chambers of
Commerce, Trades Associations, the Public Power Company (PPC), Greek
Telecommunications (OTE), the Thessaly Natural Gas Company (EPA), Greek Railways
(OSE), and the Volos Port Authority.
To ensure the smooth running of city operations at
Games-time, measures will be taken to curb traffic congestion and there will be
changes in the city cleaning programme, and in shopping and provisioning
hours.
