A Guangzhou court has jailed two men for organizing gay prostitution, the first prosecutions of the kind in Guangdong, the Southern Metropolitan News reported.

Liu Xianzhi, the owner of a gay bar in Guangzhou, was sentenced to five years by the Yuexiu District People's Court in Guangzhou, and Zhou Deming, a convicted criminal released in 2001, was sentenced to six years by the same court Friday.

Liu Xiaozhi, 42, was convicted of supplying gay prostitutes at his bar called "Man's Dream" on Haizhu Road North in Guangzhou in July 2003, and distributing advertising leaflets featuring half-naked men. Liu hired five gay prostitutes and charged 30 yuan as commission for each deal, the court heard.

In a separate case, Zhou Deming, 42, hired an apartment on Haizhou Road, where he accommodated gay prostitutes and introduced them to other people in September 2003. Zhou earned more than 100 yuan as commission, the court said.

Zhou had served a five-year jail term for another matter and was released in August 2001.
