Promoters of the China-ASEAN Expo splashed a campaign in Macao on Saturday to seek Macao's support in boosting trade and investment ties between the two giant markets.

Macao's superb locality closely reaching to the Pan-Pearl River Delta economic block and its neighboring ASEAN countries was admired by visiting party chief of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Cao Bochun, who led a large delegation to hold the promotion conference.

He told Macao entrepreneurs that as the only region in China that can provide both land and sea accesses to the Southeast Asian countries, Guangxi will host the China-ASEAN Expo in November this year. The fair will become an annual event in promoting commodity trade and investment between China and ASEAN, which jointly boast 1.7 billion consumers.

"Macao is a regional commodity, trade and service center. Its close and long-term trade relations with the European and Portuguese-speaking countries have made it an important platform for conducting foreign capital and up-to-date technology to China's interior regions," said Cao.

At the conference, Guangxi signed four project agreements and letters of intents with Macao entrepreneurs involving a contractual investment worth 306 million yuan (US$38.25 million), which will go to real estate development, automobile production and infrastructure construction in Guangxi.

Cao said that the economic and trade cooperation between Guangxi and Macao is encountering an unprecedented opportunity. Both parties have been engaged in the Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) economic block and the forming of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA).
