Sohu.com's 1st-quarter profit hits US$10.9m

Chinese Internet media firm Sohu.com on Wednesday reported quarterly net income that more than doubled on strong advertising and sponsored search revenue.

Beijing-based Sohu said first-quarter net income rose to US$10.9 million, or 27 cents a share, from US$4.59 million, or 12 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose 80 per cent year-on-year to US$25.9 million from US$14.4 million

For the first quarter of 2004, SOHU's advertising revenue totaled US$11.0

million, a 146 per cent year-on-year improvement. Advertising revenue accounted for 42 per cent of total revenues in the first quarter. Advertising revenue gross margins of 75 per cent increased from 64 per cent in the same period a year ago.

Gross margins rose to 67 per cent in the first quarter of 2004 from 64 per cent over the same period of 2003.
