China's first double-deck container train, between Beijing and Shanghai, is set to go into service on April 18. The new service will help speed up the flow of goods and materials along this railway.

According to a cooperation agreement signed last week by and between China Railway United Logistics (CRUL) and China Railway Container Transportation Co Ltd, CRUL will operate the double-deck container train service.

This one-stop transportation operates like passenger trains, with fixed traveling time, route, departure and arrival station in order to build a large-volume logistics channel between Beijing and Shanghai.

The container's structure is hollow frame, with 220-inch standard containers loaded on the low deck and 48-inch ones on the upper deck. The carrying capacity is 78 ton and volume is 140 M3. The whole regular carriage is made up of 38 railway cars and the transportation capacity is 160 TEUs. It takes only 38 hours from Beijing to Shanghai, much shorter than the present traveling time. The launch of the double-deck container train will alleviate the conflict of many needs but short supply in logistics industry between the two big cities.

CRUL, as the operator of the project, is one of the national logistics companies, which relies on the advantages of railway network and establishes a series of commodity allocation, warehousing and distribution centers. The branches spread all through the country and the business network extends to about 190 cities. At present CRUL has signed cooperation agreements with dozens of famous enterprises and become a focus in the field of logistics.

With the launching of this service, CRUL looks forward to cooperating with enterprises throughout the country and making full use of the new transportation tool to organize the logistics resources from North China, Bohai Sea belt to the Yangtze River Delta. CRUL will do its best to contribute to economic and railway industry development with good services, good quality and reasonable price.
