A young man in Chongqing Municipality who was mistaken for a burglar by a girl's parents turned out to be the 15-year-old girl's secret lover, reports Chongqing Commercial News.

On Thursday, Zhao was called over to his lover's house when the girl's parents left home on a business trip.

At midnight, the two lovers heard the parents coming back ahead of schedule, and Zhao hastily hid himself under the bed with the girl pretending to sleep on it.

But the man's shoes in the doorway betrayed him and the couple soon discovered the "thief" and took him to police because Zhao, who wanted to protect the reputation of his lover, gave no explanation.

Only in the police station did Zhao confess he was the girl's lover.

A coal mine boss who hired 13 men to kidnap a business competitor ended up being abducted by the gang and blackmailed for 500,000 yuan (US$60,500), reports Chongqing Commercial News.

Chen Shaokun, who managed a coal mine in Fengjie County near Chongqing Municipality, called in 13 hoodlums from the town last week to give a good lesson to Li, another coal mine owner who had many disputes with Chen over the business.

Chen and his wife prepared a celebration banquet at a local restaurant, awaiting the "good" news. But the gang failed to find Li and didn't want to go back with nothing, so they kidnapped Chen and his wife over the table, asking for a large sum of ransom.

Chen's father reported the matter to police and the couple have been rescued with all the kidnappers apprehended.

** Teachers strike over construction commotion

About 80 teachers at a middle school in Haikou, Hainan Province, went on strike for more than an hour on Tuesday because the school gate was blocked by sand and stones to build a basketball court and the construction work was very loud, reports Hainan Special Zone News.

The teachers found the building materials piled up into a 2-metre-high wall in front of the school gate, in the morning and some of them needed help to push their motorcycles over onto the campus. The loud noise from the construction also made them unable to continue with classes.

They resumed their classes after local education authorities ordered a path cleared up to the entrance and construction stopped during class time.
