China final of Miss Universe to be held in "Spring City"
The final contest to choose who will represent China at the 2004 Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held in "Spring City", Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province on April 28.
The organizing committee of the China final, told a conference in Kunming Friday that 50 girls will compete to represent China in the 2004 Miss Universe beauty pageant to be held in Ecuador on June 1.
Four regional preliminary rounds have been held in Beijing, in southwest China's Sichuan Province, in south China's Guangdong Province and in east China's Shandong Province. More than 3,000 girls throughout the country entered the contest, according to the committee.
Miss Universe is one of the three world-class beauty contests along with Miss World and Miss International. The contest organizing committee yearly chooses a different country or region to host the beauty pageant.
The annual event is designed to help women from all parts of the world realize their goals and cultivate their individuality and it has been held for past consecutive 51 years with participants from more than 150 countries and regions, according to the organizing committee.
China officially hosted a nationwide contest for Miss Universe for the first
time last year. Wu Wei, 23, who is from south China's Fujian Province, won the
title of Miss China and took part in the 52nd Miss Universe pageant in Panama.
