Guangxi Nanning
Nanning has a history of over 1,600 years. It was called "Yongzhou" in the Tang (618-907), "Yongning Prefecture" in the Song (960-1279), "Yongzhou Headquarters" in the Yuan (1271-1368) and "Nanning Prefecture" in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. It is located in the Lingnan Mountain Range and is surrounded by mountains with an average elevation of 80-100 meters. The city covers about 10,029 square kilometers and has a population of 2.79 million. Since it is situated in a sub-tropical monsoon area, Nanning has plenty of sunlight and rainfalls. The city’s average temperature is 21.7 C.
Guilin
Guilin is one of China's most famous places of historic interest and scenic beauty. Its scenery enjoys the fame of "the finest under the Heaven". Lying in the northeast of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and within the subtropical region, it enjoys a mild temperature with a yearly average temperature of 19℃. The city area of Guilin is 50 square kilometers and the population is about 500,000. The region of Guilin takes on a Karst feature. Geological studies show that the original Guilin was a vast expanse of sea until 300 million years ago, the crustal movement made the limestone deposit in the deep sea rise and gradually formed to land. Being effloresced and eroded, it finally became the mountains with different shapes, the grottoes with beautiful views and the aboveground rivers with mysterious stories. These mountains with strangely shaped peaks and caves of unique formation, together with the crystal-clear Lijiang River that surrounds the city, characterize Guilin's scenery and have brought it world fame. The special landmark integrated with the attractive pastorals has gained Guilin the fame of the finest under the Heaven. Guilin is a compact community by scores of minority nationalities. The population from 28 ethic nationalities such as the Zhuang, Miao, Yao, and Dong accounts for 8.5% of the total population in Guilin. The marvelous landscape makes the folk customs more delicate and fresh, in turn the unique customs enhances the beauty and vitality of the landscape. Guilin has a splendid civilization. The prehistory civilization is represented by the Zhenpi Rock, the water conservancy civilization by the Ling Canal built in the Qin Dynasty (221-206BC), the Ming Fanwang civilization by the Jingjiang Tombs and Mansions, the landscape civilization by the Cliffside stone carvings and the landscape poems. Now 109 cultural relics sites are under the national, provincial and city level special protection. Poems, verses and Buddhist carvings can be found all over the caves and holes of the mountains, among which the most famous ones are the Stele Forest of Guilin and the Cliffside Stone Carvings on the Western Hill.
Liuzhou
Liuzhou, also known as the Dragon City or the Pot City, is one of Chinese historical and cultural cities and also an important industrial city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Being the city directly under the autonomous region, Liuzhou is located at the middle reaches of the Liujiang River valley. The Liujiang River meanders eastwards and surrounds the city downtown. With mountains and waters on all sides, Liuzhou is shaped like a pot and features peculiar scenery. Currently, four districts, one suburb district and two counties are under the city's jurisdiction. With beautiful historic and human culture sites and rich tourism resources, Liuzhou is one of the A-class tourist cities and historical and cultural cities in China. The transportation network that extends in all directs facilitates tourists to visit different scenic spots, fantastic historic sites and unique folk customs of the Zhuang ethnic minority. Parks, big or small, exceed 10 in the city. With summer not torrid and winter not freezing, Liuzhou is a tourist destination in all seasons. With the good fame of "Commercial Port in Guangxi", Liuzhou enjoys convenient transportation, with the Hunan-Guangxi, Guizhou-Guangxi, Zhicheng-Liuzhou and other railways meeting here, road transportation network that extends in all directions and airplanes directly flying to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beihai and other large- and medium-sized cities, and water transportation that can directly reach Wuzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao.
Yangshuo
Situated in the heart of the Li River Valley, north of Guilin, Yangshuo is a tourist site renowned both at home and abroad for its green hills, clear waters, peculiar peaks and fantastic caves. It attracts tourists from all over the world, not only because it is just a half-hour bus ride from Guilin, but also for its non-traditional Chinese style. Many western-style cafes, shops and restaurants make it look not so Chinese. The city, which was established as a county in the Sui Dynasty (590), covers 1,428.38 square kilometers, with a population of 298,000. Yangshuo has a temperate climate all-year round that is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in the winter. The annual average temperature of Yangshuo is 19C. |
