Vice-President Liu Jiachen of the Supreme People's Court said Sunday that China is spreading the use of lethal injection in death execution of condemned criminals, a civilized way of law enforcement.

During an interview with dotcom Xinhuanet, Liu said that the use of lethal injection in death execution conforms to the Criminal Procedure Law.

"We began to introduce such a way of execution after successful experiments on animals," he said.

According to Liu, some intermediate courts that have the conditions have begun to use lethal injection. In places where the conditions are lacking, it needs the help of governments to build the execution facilities so that the civilized way of law enforcement may be spread throughout the country.

"We are strict in controlling death penalty and the number of death sentences is limited. Execution by lethal injection is a full expression of civilized way of law enforcement we have always pursue," Liu said.

It has proved that lethal injection has received favorable response from both condemned criminals and their relatives and from all quarters of the society, he said.
