The US city of Los Angeles is to stage the Grammy awards again in February, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences said Thursday.

"The city of Los Angeles is looking forward to hosting the Grammys for the fourth consecutive year," Mayor James Hahn said in a statement.

The 44th annual music awards will go ahead on February 27th in this city which until recently has competed with New York to host the prestigious event that generates substantial revenue for the host the city.

But the Grammys has been held in Los Angeles each year since 1999 following a dispute between New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and academy president Michael Greene.

Last year's ceremony was marked by controversy and protests against US rapper Eminem, whose lyrics have been slammed by gays and lesbians as homophobic.

Meanwhile, the winners of the Latin Grammy awards ceremony remained unknown after the ceremony, scheduled for September 11, was canceled for the rest of the year after terrorists struck in New York and Washington.
