Rescue teams locate 33 Russian miners alive
( 2003-10-25 15:07) (Agencies)

Rescue teams located 33 of 46 coal miners on Saturday who were trapped in a flooded shaft in southern Russia, established they were still alive and were trying to rescue them, news agencies quoted officials as saying.

Vladimir Chub, governor of Rostov-on-Don region, quoted by Interfax news agency, said a special small lift was being deployed to hoist the miners to the surface, including one who was unwell. There was no word of the remaining 13 trapped when floodwaters poured into the mineshaft on Thursday evening.
