The Shanghai Municipal Sanitary Bureau has announced that the city's medical institutions have entered a state of high alert in preparation for a possible return of SARS, Shanghai Evening Post reports.

As autumn and winter are prime seasons for respiratory diseases, medical units all over the city must attach high significance to anti-SARS measures so as to safeguard public health, according to vice mayor Yang Xiaodu.
