During the meeting, Jiang Zemin sent greetings to the representatives and urged them to strengthen theoretical study and guide their work with basic Party theories and principles.

He also called for the use of mechanical and information technologies in military construction and asked officers to focus on international technological and military development, and possible impacts on China's security.

He said the job of military attache, which required adept skills to deal with all kinds of people and complex situations, was a strategically high ranking position.
