Hu Jintao stresses implementing 'Three Represents'
( 2002-11-15 13:52) (Xinhua)

CPC general secretary Hu Jintao said the new CPC leadership will unswervingly implement the important thought of Three Represents.

Hu Jintao, newly-elected general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said in Beijing this Friday morning that the just-concluded 16th CPC National Congress was a "great success".

"This is a united, triumphant and highly progressive meeting, as well as a meeting which has carried on the past and opened a new chapter for the future."

Hu Jintao introduced his colleagues in the newly elected Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 16th CPC Central Committee.

They are Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun, and Luo Gan.

Hu Jintao vowed that the new CPC central leadership would live up to the trust of Party members and the expectations of people across the country, and work hard for the country's socialist modernization.

"On behalf of all members of the newly-elected central leadership, I thank all comrades of the Party for their trust," said Hu at a meeting with Chinese and overseas journalists covering the 16th CPC National Congress.

"We will live up to the great trust of the entire Party and the expectations of people across the country, hold high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, fully implement the important thought of Three Represents, and earnestly fulfill various tasks put forth by the 16th Party Congress," said Hu.
"We will closely unite with and depend on the entire Party and people of all ethnic groups across China, carry on the past and keep pace with the times, and work hard for building a well-off society in an all-round way, accelerating socialist modernization and striving to usher in a brand new situation for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics," he added.

Hu Jintao said that the new CPC leadership will unswervingly implement the important thought of Three Represents.

He said that the congress has established "Three Represents" as the Party's long-term guiding ideology, on a par with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory.

"That's a historical policy decision and a historical contribution," he said.

Hu Jintao pledged to continue China's reform, opening-up drive and modernization cause.

Hu said that guided and inspired by the spirit of the 16th CPC National Congress, the Communist Party of China would further show the rest of the world its sound image of keeping pace with the times and the pioneering spirit.

He said that the whole Party and people from all ethnic groups would unite more closely and concentrate on construction and development so as to continue pushing forward China's reform, opening-up, and modernization drive.

China would certainly have a more splendid future, Hu said, adding that China's further development would contribute more to world peace and development.

Hu Jintao said that the new CPC central leadership will firmly carry out the development objectives outlined in Jiang Zemin's report to the 16th CPC National Congress.

He noted that Jiang Zemin's report to the congress sums up the experience in the past 13 years, expounds the fundamental requirements for implementing the important thought of Three Represents, and makes clear the objectives of the Party and state in the first two decades of the new century.

The report also talks about policies concerning economy, politics, culture, national defense, reunification of the motherland, diplomacy and Party building, he added.

"All these reflect the will of the entire Communist Party of China and represent the aspiration of people of all ethnic groups in China," Hu said. "They are the political declaration and action plan for our Party in the new development stage of the new century."

He pledged that the new central leadership would unswervingly and persistently carry them out.
