China, UN to hold disarmament forum
China will host an international forum on arms control early next month and senior government officials and scholars from foreign countries have been invited to discuss disarmament issues, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said on Tuesday.
The conference on "A Disarmament Agenda for the 21st Century," co-sponsored by the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the United Nations, is of great importance in promoting mutual understanding of the disarmament issue under the current international circumstances, said Zhang.
The conference, to be held on April 2-4, will cover key issues in the disarmament area, including defense doctrines, disarmament and today's United Nations, nuclear disarmament and the elimination of nuclear danger.
Topics such as the prevention of arms race in outer space, conventional weapons and revolution in military affairs, missile proliferation and missile defense will also be discussed, Zhang said.
About 40 ranking officials and eminent scholars from more than 20 countries will attend the event.
