Tobacco administrator accused of graft

Chen Luorong, former director of the Hainan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration, has been accused of taking bribes, embezzlement, misappropriation of funds and neglect of duty.

The Haikou People's Procuratorate said recently that Chen, also former general manager of the Hainan branch of China Tobacco Corporation, took bribes of HK$2.5 million (US$301,000) and 340,000 yuan (US$40,900), embezzled public money totaling 2.7 million baht (US$72,000), misappropriated public funds of 2.715 million yuan (US$327,000) and US$128,000, and caused a property loss of 8.03 million yuan (US$967,000) due to his neglect of duty.

Meanwhile, former deputy head of the Import & Export Division of the provincial tobacco company Zhou Yinglan collaborated with Chen to embezzle public money totaling 2.7 million baht (US$72,000) and misappropriated public money totaling 215,000 yuan (US$25,900), 3.06 million baht (US$809,600) and US$192,000.
