Bolivia's Aragones throws in the towel

Bolivian coach Carlos Aragones on Wednesday stepped down from the post just a day after the country's football federation (FBF) had confirmed him in the position despite a disastrous Copa America campaign which brought three defeats and no goals scored.

The FBF had decided after a marathon meeting on Tuesday to keep faith with Aragones through to the end of the World Cup qualifiers in November as they still have a tiny mathematical chance of qualification for next year's finals in Japan and South Korea.

But Aragones decided it was time to fall on his sword after Bolivia lost 1-0 to Uruguay, 2-0 to Honduras and 4-0 to Costa Rica to finish bottom of their Copa America first-round group.
