Chinese folk craft of colored stone inlay on verge of extinction

Miao Chengjin, a 73-year-old arts and crafts master, is an inheritor of the traditional Chinese folk handicraft of colored stone inlay. Over the last year, Miao and his apprentices have been working on a 5.68-meter-long and 2.03-meter-wide mural of the realm of Nirvana at their plant in Longchuan village of Wenzhou city, East China's Zhejiang province. The mural is a landscape that includes Buddha, flowers and birds. Many of Miao's exquisite works have been displayed at museums and temples or in private collections. [Photo/IC]
