The unveiling ceremony of the "Victory wall" and a series of themed activities marking the 70th anniversary of Japan's surrender to the Allies on Aug 15 were held at Zhengmei Bridge residential community in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province on Thursday.

The Victory wall, made by a local resident named He Chuyi, is a result of his five-month work on the hundreds of vines outside his apartment building. By directing the growth of the stems, pruning the leaves, and decorating with additional trimmings, he has turned the sprawling vines into a piece of mural art.

It is said that Mr. He has been making a themed piece of vine art every year since 2008. There have been "Olympic vines", "Shanghai Expo vines", and a piece on the 90th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese Communist Party, making special scenery of the local community.
