Lyu Houmin, the full-time photographer to Mao Zedong, founder of the People’s Republic of China, passed away in Beijing on March 9.

Born in September 1928 in Heilongjiang province, Lyu got his job as a photographer working for state leaders, including Mao and Premier Zhou Enlai, in January 1950.

Some of Lyu's most famous photos showed Mao in his study room and Mao playing table tennis.
