Regulation targets e-commerce disputes
A new regulation targeting patent disputes in the e-commerce sector took effect in early September in Beijing, a city home to major online shopping portals in China, including JD, Gome and Dangdang. The move is aimed at preventing infringements and accelerating the process of dealing with disputes, according to the Beijing Intellectual Property Office. Local enforcement officials said the rollout will enable them to reduce the period of settling online patent disputes from three months to 45 days.

Aviation expo helps companies take flight
The Aviation Expo China 2019 held at the China National Convention Center from Sept 18 to 20 attracted nearly 300 exhibitors from 11 countries to display their latest technologies and services. In addition to its traditional exhibition areas including aircraft manufacturing and maintenance, aero-engines, onboard systems, airport and air traffic control, and industrial unmanned aerial vehicles, this year's event featured the additions of technology innovation and trade, intelligent manufacturing concerning aerospace and aviation, additive manufacturing and airborne internet.

Copyright trading given boost in Nanjing
A national copyright trading center was unveiled during a trade and economic fair in Nanjing last week. At the inauguration ceremony, several copyright agreements were signed. The establishment will help to attract premier copyright resources from across the country to Nanjing, increase the city's copyright trade volume and boost the copyright-intensive industry, local officials said.

Latest innovation showcased at fair
The China International Industry Fair held in Shanghai last week showcased frontier innovation achievements in intelligent manufacturing, including basic materials, key components, machinery for advanced manufacturing and integral solutions for green manufacturing. The five-day fair starting from Sept 17 was highlighted with industrial robots, eco-friendly technologies, new energy and internet-connected vehicles, and new materials. Of the exhibition booths, nearly 30 percent were taken up by overseas exhibitors.

Annual list of major cases announced
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced an annual national list of top 10 cases concerning protecting new plant varieties for this year in Zhangye earlier this month. The model cases were selected by experts from renowned judicial and academic organizations including the Supreme People's Court, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. By the end of July, more than 30,410 applications for new plant varieties had been made in China, some 3,640 of them filed this year. The country has ranked top of the world in terms of new plant varieties filings for two consecutive years, according to the ministry.
