The Wall of two Williams
I first got to know William Edgar Geil not through conscious re-photography, but via coincidental re-photography. He hailed from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and as a missionary explorer in 1907-08 was believed to be the first of any nationality to travel the Great Wall of China from end to end. Unlike most explorer-adventurers of his day, he returned to his home country having taken nothing but photographs.
